Austin International School's
International Week
November 16 through 20, 2009
International Week at AIS is a fun
and educational exploration of the world's cultures through hands-on instruction
in their various foods, languages, costumes, art, geography, and more. In step
with the U.S. Department of Education's International Education Week, AIS
students spend several weeks delving deeply into a country and its people.
Classes share what they've learned and created by visiting other classes and
hosting students from various grade levels. Reports, dances, songs, culinary
activities, classroom decorations, and special projects - such as haiku,
origami, mehndi, batik, wildlife visits, and museum visits - fill this special time. At
the end of the week, parents and friends join the teachers and students for an
international potluck dinner and social.
