Our Story

Expanding Minds. Broadening Perspectives.

Austin International School began in 2001 as the Lycée Français d’Austin, with 65 students in a small building in the northwest Hyde Park area. Lycée Français d’Austin became Austin International School in 2004. Ten years later the school is located in a bigger facility in North Austin and is the academic home for approximately 170 students who come from America and all over the world. Our families come from more than 20 countries and speak 16 languages. We offer an international curriculum built from the standards of the French Ministry of Education and American and Texan programs, delivered in French, English and Spanish.

A group of local business and political leaders founded Austin International School to meet the demands of a growing international and globally-minded population in Austin. A draw to businesses seeking to attract international employees and to parents looking for an alternative to the private and public school options in town, AIS has grown right along with the community it serves. We teach French and English as languages of fluency and Spanish as a language of communication. Our unique program is fully harmonized at all grade levels, providing a cohesive learning experience from the full-time academic program for maternelle (prekindergarten) accredited by the NAEYC and the French Ministry of Education to the rigorous and dynamic scholastic challenges of an elementary education leading to middle school.
