A Typical Day in Middle School

AIS Middle School students study in a seven-period day interspersed with breaks and passing times. Our goal is to promote independence and self-management skills, all while providing a structured learning environment for our students.

7:45am – Drop-off
Your child can be dropped off any time from 7:45am onwards. Children arriving at this time proceed to their homeroom and meet with their advisors until class begins at 8:00am.

8:00am – Classes Begin
Middle School classes start promptly at 8:00am. Students will engage in two one hour blocks of learning with a five minute break/passing time in between lessons.

10:05am – Morning Break
Middle School students enjoy a morning break during which they may play on the front playground or visit the school Library or Media Center.

10:20am – Morning Classes Resume
Periods three and four are shorter, 30-minute periods of learning. Period five is a longer, one-hour learning period. Students will have a five minute break/passing time in between these lessons.

12:30pm – Lunch
Students may eat a packed lunch from home or you may purchase a hot lunch from our external caterer. Students may use any spare time to relax, study, or play at their leisure.

1:10pm – Afternoon Classes Begin
Period six is a one-hour lesson.

2:10pm – Afternoon Break
Middle School students enjoy an afternoon break during which they may play on the front playground or visit the school Library or Media Center.

2:30pm – Afternoon Classes Resume
Period sevenis a one-hour lesson.

3:30pm – Classes End
Pickup time is from 3:30pm until 6pm. Students may enroll in our Extracurricular Program where they can extend their learning through afternoon enrichment activities.
