Student Assessment
Report Cards
The academic year at AIS is divided into trimesters
and report cards are given each trimester with evaluations. AIS uses the French
reporting system of acquired competences, and grades are given as A-acquired
competency, P-in progress for competency, and N-not acquired competency.
The difference between reporting in France and here at AIS is that AIS has
additional reporting in English and Spanish.
After report cards are
released, Parent-Teacher Conferences are held. AIS understands the
importance of parent teacher partnership for student achievement, therefore these
meetings allow for parents and teachers to communicate each trimester towards
students' academic success.
Testing
For Second and Fifth graders,
a test administered by the French Ministry of Education is given to assess their
overall acquisitions of skills over the previous years. Therefore,
for second graders, the exam is over concepts learned in both 1st and 2nd grade,
and for Fifth graders the exam covers skills learned in third, fourth and fifth
grade.
In addition to these French
assessments, AIS administers the well known private school ERB test to third,
fourth and fifth grade students for evaluation of ability and achievement in
reading, writing and mathematics skills based on national as well as independent
and suburban norms.
