BUILDING WITH CIRCUITS: PHYSICS IN MOTION by IDEA Lab Kids
In this IDEA Lab class, 3rd-5th grades will be immersed in both simple to complex electrical engineering (ata beginner level) as well as exploring physics through various challenges. Projects will include making a handmade flashlight, fan car, fan boat, and a Rube Goldberg Machine! Very hands on class with awesome take home projects.
CULINARY ARTS AND KITCHEN CHEMISTRY
New Recipes and Experiments! Join us in our kitchen and lab this semester as we continue to cook up tasty recipes and concoct super science experiments. Each class alternates between culinary arts and simple kitchen chemistry that will be fun, messy, and delicious!
DESIGN-BASED ENGINEERING: SIMPLE CIRCUITS AND THINGS THAT LIGHT UP by IDEA Lab Kids
Students will work with switches, LEDs and conductive materials to bring light to all sorts of things! Projects include making a light up Light Saber, flashlights, and the basics of making a light switch.
ENGINEERING, PHYSICS, AND ROLLER COASTER DESIGN by IDEA Lab Kids
Exploring engineering through bulding toys and various models of roller coaster is a great way to end your school day! We will explore beginner and complex concepts for the K-2nd grade level, and challenge your child in a fun and engaging way during their first hour after school. One of IDEA Lab's best classes!
Through this activity, students learn the basic techniques for playing tennis. All activities take place indoors with portable nets, allowing students to develop their tennis skills in a comfortable envrionment. Students will receive immediate feedback on their technique and will collaborate with others. Taught by Kid Fit Tennis.
This class is designed especially for the preschooler that wants tumbling, balance beam, and rhythmic gymnastics in one class. Students will progress through warm-up exercises, strength and flexibility skills, locomotor and coordination skills, creative movement, and a variety of tumbling, balance beam and rhythmic gymnastics skills (ball, ribbon, and hoop manipulation).
PRESCHOOL STEM CLUB by IDEA Lab Kids
In this IDEA Lab class, PK4 students will experience a revolving set of class projects centered on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math for their age group.
Students will have an exciting time learning in French about art from different time periods, cultures, and artists. Creativity will be the guide to create hands-on projects from all kind of materials. We will paint, cut, glue and draw, exploring our curiosity and imaginations. Each age group will have a unique approach to the subject matter. Art I will explore the Italian Renaissance, Art II will explore women artists. Both classes are open to students 6 years and older. Taught in French by art instructor Valérie Horne.
During this class, we will focus on the game fundamentals, teach concepts to increase their understanding of basketball, and do it all in a fun environment. We will improve confidence on the court by developing individual skills including ball handling, shooting, defensive techniques, conditioning, and overall concept of the game at all levels. We will also play games 2-on-2 or 3-on-3.
BEGINNERS FLÛTE CLASS
In this class taught in French, students from CE2, CM1, CM2, 6th, and 7th grade will learn the basics of music theory, and fundamentals of flute playing. They will develop their imagination and express their emotions by connecting with the sound of the flute and learn how to interpret a score. The first year consists of: learning how to read music from a score; establishing proper flute embouchure technique, breathing technique, and tone production; developing rhythmic precision; and educating the ear with musical genres and periods from the classical repertoire. Students will practice for a mini public performance and live recording to be held during the last class. Flute rental and material cost is included in the class fee. Flute rental is optional and can be deducted from the class fee. Ask for details. Learning to play an instrument requires daily practicing and is reserved for highly motivated students.
Geared towards two different age groups, both courses are taught by a native speaker of French who is certified by the French Chess Association. The Chess Class I is designed for students with little to no experience with chess. The course begins with a brief history of the game of chess. It then introduces the student to the board and pieces, explaining through role plays, exercices and games how each piece moves. Students in the Chess Class II will learn advanced strategy, tactics, and theory. The course culminates with a tournament at the end of the semester. Not only will you learn how to play chess but you will also learn a bit about the history of a game that has existed for more than 1500 years.
KIDS CODE+COOK taught in Spanish and French
COOKING CLASSES (even weeks): Through the course Basics of Cooking and Nutrition, students learn the basics of cooking delicious, fun, and healthy recipes; they will identify seasonal food and learn how to explore new ingredients. Over a session, students will learn about basic nutrition, kitchen safety, and other strategies to cultivate a love of cooking.
These afterschool yoga classes integrate playful yoga postures, breathing exercises and guided relaxation along to music for an exhilarating experience for your child. Yoga is a self-expressive and non-competitive way for children to build self-esteem and instill confidence, improve concentration and focus, develop a healthy intellect, build balance, coordination and flexibility, develop calmness and learn tools for coping with stress in difficult situations. We help each student practice healthy habits and reach his or her highest potential. Taught in French by instructor Amy Pancake.
We aim to develop necessary motor and interpersonal skills used in everyday life through a sport that kids enjoy. The students learn that soccer can be both an individual and team sport as they develop their own soccer and communication skills. They acquire knowledge regarding the rules of the game and we progress as a group beginning with the basic aerobic stretches and exercises. Then we advance to dribbling, passing, and shooting. We encourage the children to have fun while learning and cooperating as a team. Taught by Sports Movement.
