If You Were a Parent at AIS...
You will find an
interesting international existence in the heart of Austin.
If you were a parent at AIS,
you may find that your circle of friends and acquaintances may take on an
international quality that you may have not experienced before. Here at
AIS, we have families from over 20 nationalities speaking approximately 16
language. These families, although from vastly diverse backgrounds, have a
shared vision to give their children a highly academic, international and
multicultural education. You will have your first taste of this
international community at the annual International Potluck conducted each
September after the new school year has begun. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish
reflecting their cultural background. It's good visiting and good eating!
You will hear other
languages being spoken in your home.
After your child or children
begin attending AIS, you will hear them speaking and singing in French, Spanish
and English at home. When school friends come over to visit, you may find
them speaking French while playing. In addition, if you do not speak these
languages, but you are learning, you may find your children teaching you and
correcting you in your language skills. AIS is very supportive of parents
wanting to increase there language abilities as well, so you may find yourself
learning a new language, as you had always wished.
You may find your children
ready for bed.
Some AIS parents have
expressed their appreciation for all of the outside play time AIS students
receive on their daily basis. "They not only exercise their brains, but
also their bodies. I love that they really get good recess time," Chris
Heidel, CP parent.
You will have many
opportunities to utilize your talents towards your child's education.
Whatever great skill you may
have, AIS and its Parent-Teacher Organization will be happy to have you on board
using it for AIS students. From helping teachers with special events in
the classroom to participating in our Green Committee, you will find many
opportunities to share your talents.
