Parent-Teacher Organization (formerly L'Association de Parents d'Elèves)
The Parent-Teacher
Organization (PTO), (renamed April 2009) is an active voluntary organization whose membership
is open to all parents/guardians and whose purpose is to assist AIS in creating
a community of life-long learners, creative thinkers and committed citizens.
The PTO is an organization committed to building school spirit and a positive
community atmosphere; and for enriching the educational life of the AIS
community by organizing special events and programs. The PTO´s mission is to
support the educational goals directed by the Administration, and to organize
social and fundraising events which strengthen and support AIS. Some examples
of PTO funded and staffed projects include coordinating and staffing pizza
lunches for students on Fridays, staffing the AIS Library, coordinating the Room
Parents system, organizing opportunities for parents to socialize outside of the
school, and organizing Splash Day on the last day of school in June.
The
PTO has elected officers. Monthly PTO meetings are open to all parents, but
only PTO members may participate. Membership in the PTO is renewable on an
annual basis. PTO meetings include discussion of issues that parents bring
forward, planning for upcoming events, periodic updates from the Executive
Director and development of project ideas for the future. In the spring of each
year, an annual general meeting is held to elect new officers and to vote on
projects, events and fundraising plans for the following year. All
parents, especially those new to the AIS community, are encouraged to get
involved in the life of the school through the PTO.
