Chess at AIS

This year, AIS will proudly host the final of the 2026 AIS Chess Tournament, taking place on Tuesday, May 5. The event will be open to students, giving them the opportunity to test their strategy, concentration, and problem-solving skills in a supportive and competitive setting.

Chess encourages patience, critical thinking, and sportsmanship—all skills that benefit students both on and off the board.

Eight players will compete in the quarterfinals, including Zayn Shanmuganathan (GS), Leonardo Holtorf (CM2), Elliot Arrilaga Smith (6ème), Cian Munjal (6ème), and four players from our chess class (names to be announced soon).

Tournament Details:

  • When: Tuesday, May 5, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (approximately 3 hours)
  • Where: Austin International School, Adelphi Campus
  • Format: Quarterfinals, semifinals, and final—all on the same day
  • Game time: 20 minutes per player

The bracket and schedule will be shared once all participant names are confirmed.
