Subject Overview
This course is designed to help students develop strong communicative competence in French while deepening their understanding of global cultures and perspectives. Through meaningful, inquiry-based learning experiences, students build proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing as they grow toward becoming confident, independent language learners.
Skills
Students recognize familiar words and very basic phrases concerning themselves, their family and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly in spoken language through audio or audio-visual materials that communicate ideas and feelings. and incorporate opinions and cultural details. This helps them develop empathy and new perspectives.
Students can understand familiar words and simple sentences, like those on posters or in catalogs. They also analyze explicit and implicit messages in multimodal texts, recognizing the text type, language, and purpose. They consider elements like color and layout and check if all parts share the same context to deliver a consistent message.

In Year 2 of MYP French Language Acquisition, students continue to build on foundational skills, developing greater independence and confidence in using French for meaningful communication. This course emphasizes expanding vocabulary, refining grammar, and improving fluency while fostering intercultural understanding and critical thinking.
Students engage with a variety of authentic texts—including articles, stories, videos, and dialogues—to explore themes such as identity, daily life, global issues, and cultural perspectives. The course encourages students to express personal ideas, respond to diverse viewpoints, and participate actively in discussions and collaborative projects.
